The venue decides whether the coach arrives the day before, the day of, or not at all. Send the stadium and date and we will spec to its published rules.
There is no general rule for RV tailgating at NFL games. We read four stadiums' own parking pages and got four incompatible answers, including one venue that will not have RVs in its lots at all and one that bans anything over forty feet from the entire complex.
The two rules that contradict each other
Highmark Stadium, Buffalo: RV entry runs from "8:00 AM (1) day prior" to "10:00 PM (1) day prior." No day-of-game entry is permitted. You must arrive the day before and stay the night.
SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles: "Overnight parking or storage of equipment by guests in tailgating areas is not permitted. Any vehicles left overnight will be towed at the owner's expense." You must arrive and leave the same day.

Book the window, not the pass
People plan a tailgate around securing a parking pass. The pass is the easy part. What actually determines whether the trip works is the arrival and departure window, because at some venues it is measured in hours and it is not flexible.
Buffalo is the clearest example. Entry to the RV Lot opens at 8:00 AM the day before the game and closes at 10:00 PM that same day, and there is no day-of entry. That is a fourteen-hour window, once, the day before. Departure is bounded at both ends too: RVs cannot leave on game day until two hours after the game finishes, and everything must be out by 2:00 PM the following day.
What it costs to plan a game-day arrival
A coach booked to arrive on the morning of a Bills home game does not get into the RV Lot. Not late, not charged extra: not admitted. The rental has to start a day earlier than the game, which changes the rental length, the driver's schedule and whether anyone can work the Friday. That is a booking decision, and it is invisible if you plan around kickoff.
SoFi inverts it. Because anything left overnight is towed at the owner's expense, the coach arrives and leaves inside the same day, and anything multi-night has to sleep somewhere else entirely. Two venues, two hard rules, pointing in opposite directions.
Two of the four effectively exclude a large coach
Arrowhead publishes a flat ceiling: "Vehicles longer than 40 feet exceed the designated parking space length and are not permitted inside the Truman Sports Complex." That is not a lot restriction, it is the complex. A forty-two-foot coach has nowhere to go on that site.
Lambeau goes further in a quieter way. "Vehicles parking in any Lambeau Field operated parking lot must fit in a 9x18 parking stall." Almost no RV fits a nine by eighteen foot stall, so in practice RVs and buses are not in stadium lots at all; the Packers direct them to a third-party operator, PMI, at nearby locations.
The measurement to take first
Coach length plus anything towed, before you shortlist a unit. Under 40 feet keeps Arrowhead open. Any RV at all closes Lambeau's own lots and moves you to a separate operator with separate terms. At SoFi the relevant number is not length but seat count, since sixteen or more passengers makes a vehicle oversized regardless of size.
Arrowhead sells two different oversized products
This is a useful distinction that other venues do not make explicit. Arrowhead separates vehicles that spill beyond one parking space but fit inside two, which take an oversized vehicle pass covering two spaces, from Class A and C units at 25 feet or more, full-size buses and RVs, which take a Bus/RV parking pass instead.
The second group is directed to the western and northern areas of Dubiner Circle behind Kauffman Stadium, on a first come, first served basis, and the stadium notes that space is limited and recommends arriving early. So at Arrowhead the pass gets you eligibility rather than a reserved position, and arrival time still decides where you end up.
What most people get wrong: the grill has to be off the ground
Buffalo permits natural gas and propane grills, and permits "Charcoal grills & open-fit fires that are raised at least 6 inches off the ground," requiring coals to be completely extinguished before entering the stadium. Charcoal grills and open-pit fires that are not raised six inches, along with wood stoves and oil fryers, are prohibited.
That six-inch clause is the one people miss, and it is not unusual. Bristol Motor Speedway requires campfires to be "off of the ground." Indianapolis Motor Speedway permits fires only in "appropriate elevated devices such as a fire pit or grill" and prohibits digging a pit. Three different venues, three different wordings, same underlying rule.
Pack for the pattern, not the venue
Bring a grill or fire pit with legs as a default across motorsport and stadium work. A ground-standing charcoal tray is the single most commonly confiscated item in this category, and it is cheap to solve in advance and impossible to solve at a gate.
Nobody publishes a price
None of the four venues publishes a rate for RV or oversized vehicle parking. SoFi says only that "Parking fees will vary based on each event." Buffalo and Arrowhead require advance purchase without stating a figure. Lambeau routes you to PMI, whose terms are its own.
An earlier version of this page carried fifteen cost ranges for stadium tailgating. None of them was sourced, so they are gone. What can be fixed in advance is the coach; the venue lines stay open until you buy them.

Book it in this order
- Name the stadium and read its own parking page. Nothing here transfers between venues.
- Find the arrival window and the overnight rule. Those set the rental length before anything else.
- Measure coach plus tow against any published length limit, and check seat count separately.
- Establish whether RVs are in venue lots at all, or handled by a third-party operator.
- Buy the correct pass, and check whether an oversized parking pass and a tailgating pass are separate products.
- Pack an elevated grill or fire pit. Assume ground fires are prohibited.
- Hold the venue parking cost as an open line, since none of these publishes a rate.
