Bristol Bans Generators in Every Hookup Section. Pick the Campground Before the RV.

Bristol Motor Speedway permits generators in its non-hookup camping sections and prohibits them in the hookup and tent sections. Shore power and generator power are therefore alternatives by section, not a primary and a backup, which makes the campground section the first decision of the trip and the RV spec the second. Everything below traces to the Speedway's own camping page and 2026 schedule announcement. Where the Speedway is silent, this guide says so instead of filling the gap.

The generator rule decides the unit, not your budget

The Speedway's camping page states that generators "are permitted in non-hookup camping sections, but are not permitted in our hookup or tent sections." The same page lists 30 and 50 amp electrical hookups among the amenities. Put those two facts side by side and the consequence is that the generator ban applies exactly where the shore power is. There is no section of the campground where you get both.

That changes the order of operations. On a hookup site, the coach has to carry its entire load on the pedestal amperage alone, roof air conditioning included, because the onboard generator is not a legal fallback when the pedestal is undersized or the run trips. On a non-hookup site, the generator carries everything and the real plan is fuel, not amperage.

Bristol publishes service prices, not site prices

Every dollar figure the Speedway puts on its camping page is a service, not a site. Water fill is listed at $0.50 per gallon with a 20-gallon minimum. Sewer pump service is $45 per pump. Private toilet rental is $145, with one service per day included. Campsite rates do not appear on that page at all.

Two things follow. First, any per-night Bristol camping figure quoted on a third-party site is not coming from the Speedway, so treat it as someone's estimate rather than a rate. Second, those published services are precisely the ones you consume in the non-hookup sections, which is where the generator is legal. The cheaper section is the one that meters you.

The campgrounds, by their real names

The Speedway lists these campgrounds and entrances. Note that hookup availability and site size vary within each one, and the Speedway does not publish a per-campground breakdown of which sections are hookup and which are not. That is the question to ask when you call.

A note on names that circulate online: "Thunder Valley" is the Speedway's nickname, not the name of a campground on its camping page. If a booking site offers you a "Thunder Valley Campground" reservation, confirm which of the four listed above you are actually buying.

Measure the tow vehicle against the site, not the coach

The Speedway describes multiple site sizes "with some as large as 30'X60'." That 60 feet is the site, not a coach allowance. A 45-foot Class A towing a 15-foot vehicle consumes the entire largest site on the property before anyone opens an awning, and most sites are smaller than that.

What most people get wrong: the campfire rule

The Speedway states that "campfires are permitted and must be off of the ground." Read quickly, that lands as "campfires are permitted," and people arrive with a ring intended to sit on the dirt. The second half of the sentence is the operative half. Bring an elevated fire pit with legs. Pets are treated the same way, permitted in the campgrounds but not in the grandstand areas, so plan who stays with the animal during the race rather than discovering the rule at the gate.

The corrected 2026 Bristol calendar

Bristol Motor Speedway announced two NASCAR tripleheader weekends for 2026, both run on its high-banked concrete oval. There is no dirt race on the 2026 schedule, which matters because guides still circulate describing a spring Bristol dirt event.

The Speedway's 2027 race dates were not posted on the camping page we checked. Confirm them with the Speedway before booking a site a year out.

Book it in this order

1. Pick the race weekend. For 2026 that is September 17–19, closing with the Bass Pro Shops Night Race on the 19th.
2. Ask the Speedway which campground and which section your reservation is in, and whether that section is hookup or non-hookup.
3. If hookup, get the pedestal amperage, 30 or 50, in writing. Spec the coach to run its full load on that number with no generator.
4. If non-hookup, plan generator fuel, then add $45 per sewer pump and $0.50 per gallon of water at a 20-gallon minimum to your budget.
5. Get the assigned site dimension, not the campground maximum. Add coach length plus tow length and compare.
6. Pack an elevated fire pit. Ground fires do not comply.
7. Confirm which entrance your credential uses. Entrance No. 5 serves Dragstrip and Landing, Entrance No. 3 serves Medallion.
