Which Las Vegas Motor Speedway lot has hookups?

The Speedway does not say. LVMS names four RV lots, The Strip, Inner Circle, Motorhome Hill and Vegas Veranda, and states that there are "Multiple site sizes, ranging from 20’x40’ to 25’X60’" with "Full-hookups and dry camping available." It does not publish which lots offer which.

What to do about it

Ask LVMS which lot your booking is in and whether that specific lot is full-hookup or dry, before you choose a unit. The difference decides whether you are specifying for shore power or for generator hours and fuel.

What it costs if you don't

A coach specced for a hookup site and assigned to dry camping spends race week on its generator, and one specced for dry camping wastes the hookup it is parked next to.

What happens on arrival at the Speedway?

Every RV is inspected before it reaches its lot. LVMS states: "Upon arrival at LVMS, campers will go directly to the RV Check-In located at Entry 7 on Las Vegas Blvd. Once your passes have been picked up and your RV has been inspected, you will head to your RV lot."

What to do about it

Route the driver to Entry 7 on Las Vegas Boulevard specifically, not to the nearest gate, and allow time for pass collection and inspection before the unit is positioned.

What it costs if you don't

A driver sent to the wrong entrance has to circle a very large site on the busiest arrival day, and the unit cannot go to its lot until the inspection is done.

Can you have a fire at Las Vegas Motor Speedway?

Only in an enclosed device. LVMS states that "Fully enclosed UL Listed cooking pits/outdoor fire pits are permitted. NO OPEN FIRES and/or barrel fires are permitted."

What to do about it

Bring a fully enclosed, UL Listed pit. The UL listing is a specific requirement rather than a general description, so check the product carries it.

What it costs if you don't

A ground fire, an open pit or the traditional barrel is refused, and an enclosed pit without a UL listing is a question you do not want asked at the gate.

Can you bring a dog to the Speedway campgrounds?

The Speedway publishes two statements that sit awkwardly together. Its camping guidance says "All pets need to be harnessed, leashed, or tethered when outside of your RV" and that "Pet relief areas are provided in all RV lots." Its prohibited items list says pets, except for service animals, are not allowed.

What to do about it

Do not resolve that contradiction yourself. Put the question to LVMS in writing for your specific event and lot before travelling with an animal.

What it costs if you don't

Arriving with a dog on the strength of the camping page, and meeting the prohibited items list at the gate, is a problem with no good answer once you are there.
